Looking for work that fits around your life? Relieving could be just what you’re looking for.

Have you been following Toi Toi Recruitment on social media and thought, “I’d love to give relieving a go!”? Maybe you’re ready to step back from a permanent position, returning to work after time away with your whānau, looking to fit work around other commitments, or enjoying retirement but still keen to get out and about a few days a week.

Whatever your situation, relieving can offer the flexibility to work in a way that suits you.

At Toi Toi Recruitment, we connect kaiako, teachers and education support staff with early childhood centres, schools and other education settings across Hawke’s Bay. If you enjoy working with tamariki, meeting new people and getting involved in different learning environments, we’d love to hear from you.

Getting Started Is Easy

You don’t need to have everything figured out before getting in touch. The first step is simply to say hello!

Send us an email, flick us a private message on social media, or get in touch to arrange a chat. We’ll talk through your experience, qualifications, availability and what you’re hoping to get out of relieving.

We’ll also explain how Toi Toi works, including the types of shifts available, our pay rates, the centres and schools we work with, and any potential opportunities for ongoing or permanent work.

From there, we’ll guide you through our application and onboarding process, including the required employment paperwork, identity and eligibility checks, references and safety-check requirements.

Once your onboarding is complete and all required checks are in place, you can start receiving suitable work offers. We’ll help you understand each step along the way, so you know what to expect.

Work That Fits Around You

One of the great things about relieving is having more say over when you work.

Through our workforce app, you can manage your availability to suit your week. Prefer set days? No problem. Need to change things from week to week? You can do that too.

When shifts become available that match your qualifications, experience and availability, we can send them through to you. You can review the details and accept the shifts that work for you.

Not available that day, or the shift isn’t quite right? That’s okay too. You can decline and wait for another suitable opportunity.

We understand that everyone has different commitments outside of work. Our aim is to help connect you with opportunities that work for you, while supporting the centres and schools that need an extra pair of hands.

Where Could You Work?

Toi Toi Recruitment works with education providers across Hawke’s Bay, including Hastings, Napier, Taradale and Havelock North.

Depending on your qualifications, experience, availability and travel preferences, there may be opportunities in:

  • Early childhood education (ECE): supporting tamariki and teaching teams across a range of centre environments.

  • Schools: supporting learning and providing assistance where required.

  • Education support: one-to-one and other support opportunities where your experience and the role requirements align.

Every setting is different, which means relieving can be a great way to broaden your experience, build relationships with different teams and discover the environments you enjoy most.

What About Pay?

We pay our team weekly, every Friday, and our rates depend on the role, qualifications and relevant registration requirements.

We’ll talk you through the applicable pay rate during your onboarding, so you know where you stand before accepting work.

Relieving is casual employment, so shifts aren't guaranteed. The number of opportunities available can vary depending on demand, the time of year, your availability and the types of roles you're able to work in.

We’ll always do our best to connect you with suitable opportunities, while being upfront about how relieving works.

Why Toi Toi Recruitment?

We’re proud to be a locally owned Hawke’s Bay recruitment business built around relationships, connection and supporting our education community.

We know that stepping into a new centre or school can feel a little daunting at first. That’s why we value open communication, getting to know our team and helping our relievers feel supported as they move between different workplaces.

Whether you're an experienced kaiako, a qualified teacher, an education support worker or someone looking to explore suitable opportunities in education, we'd love to have a conversation about what might be possible.

Ready to Give Relieving a Go?

You don’t have to commit to working every week, and getting in touch doesn't mean you have to commit to joining our reliever pool straight away.

Sometimes, a simple conversation is all it takes to find out whether relieving could be a good fit for you.

So, if you’ve been thinking about it for a while, take this as your sign to reach out!
